Under Illinois law an injured person can receive compensation if it can be proven that the person who caused the accident was negligent and caused an injury. Immediately after being injured in an accident, the injured person becomes involved in an adversarial process. The insurance company of the negligent party has adjustors, investigators and attorneys working to minimize the amount the insurance company pays the injured person.
Many injured individuals fail to hire an attorney thinking they can handle the matter by themselves. The injured person thinks the negligent party's insurance will automatically pay their medical bills and lost wages. It's not that easy.
